In the "Old Days" you would wander into your local travel agent office and browse through brochures upon brochures. Or, you would load up in the family station wagon and head out, just WING IT!
Boy how things have changed!
- How do I find a Travel Agent? Well you can search the internet for one or social media sites like Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter. Check with your friends, family, co-workers. Store front Travel Agencies are becoming fewer & fewer. Many Travel Agents work from home and are accessible by phones and/or email!
- What can a Travel Agent do for me? A good Travel Agent is worth their weight in gold. Not only do they spend hours researching destinations, but they will specialize in particular destinations to give you real-time reviews and experience your needing to make that decision. They know where the good restaurants are, and if they don't, they know other Travel Agents who do! If something goes wrong on your vacation, you have someone in your corner! Some online travel sites send your calls to automated customer service systems, or worse, an outsourced agent that has no clue who you are. So not only are you dealing with a disaster, you have to explain it multiple times!
- Will a Travel Agent try to up-sell me? Possibly. Or they may be possibly letting you know all the options that you may not even be aware of. Not every add-on pays a Travel Agent commission. Sometimes they just want to let you know what is available to you. Either way, you are the one in control. If you don't want that photo package or special event ticket, you can say No Thank You!
- Speaking of commission, what will a Travel Agent cost me? The majority of the time, NOTHING. Yes Nothing. Its FREE. The vendor (your destinations) pay your travel agent a percentage of your package price. So it costs you nothing extra, but you get all the benefits!
